The WorldFAIR Project

Rainbow pie chart with segments representing different disciplinary Work Packages in the WorldFAIR ProjectThe Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is participating in the WorldFAIR Project, a major global collaboration between partners from thirteen countries across Africa, Australasia, Europe, and North and South America funded by Horizon Europe. WorldFAIR will advance the implementation of the FAIR principles for data sharing, in particular those for Interoperability, by developing a cross-domain interoperability framework and recommendations for FAIR assessment in a set of eleven disciplines or cross-disciplinary research areas.

DRI is leading the Cultural Heritage case study, which seeks to explore how established image sharing practices within the sector can be more closely aligned with the FAIR principles: first, by mapping the policies, practices and technologies which already facilitate the interoperability of both image data and associated metadata provided by Gallery, Library, Archive and Museum (GLAM) organisations; second, by producing a set of recommendations that build on the sector’s successful practices and third, by implementing the recommendations at the Repository. The overall outcome of the case study will be the production of our own use case describing the successes and challenges of implementing the recommendations, providing an example to GLAM organisations and DRI members seeking to adopt the FAIR principles. The DRI is also pleased to be able to highlight the achievements in the cultural heritage sector of our WorldFAIR Project partners, which may usefully inform the development of data sharing best practices in other domains.
