The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is delighted to share news of the launch of a new project: WordFAIR.

The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is delighted to share news of the launch of a new project: WordFAIR. In this significant Horizon Europe funded project, partners drawn from a wide range of geographies will collaborate to improve reusability and interoperability of digital objects across eleven specific disciplines or disciplinary groupings.

Coordinated by CODATA, with the Research Data Alliance Europe as a major partner, the WorldFAIR project will work with a set of case studies to advance implementation of the FAIR data principles of findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability. The project will focus particularly on interoperability and will develop a set of recommendations and a framework for FAIR assessment in a set of disciplines, or cross-disciplinary research areas. DRI is responsible for the work package on cultural heritage, which will focus on making recommendations for improving and aligning existing image sharing platforms and standards, developing a framework for FAIR assessment and benchmarking in cultural heritage, and testing and refining recommendations.

WorldFAIR runs for twenty-four months from 1 June 2022. The project is a collaboration between nineteen partners around the world, including prominent research institutions and scholarly organisations from Africa, Australasia, Europe, and North and South America. Find out more about the project on the CODATA website.

DRI is funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS) via the Higher Education Authority (HEA) and the Irish Research Council (IRC).
