Profile

Noelia Romero holds the position of training manager and digital archivist as part of the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) team based at the Royal Irish Academy (RIA). In her role, Noelia provides expert advice and hands-on assistance to DRI members to facilitate the ingest, preservation, and publication of their digital collections in the DRI repository. She is also leading and overseeing the development and roll-out of a five-year digital preservation training programme aimed at DRI members that aligns with DRI’s Strategic Plan 2025–2029.

Noelia has extensive professional experience in digital information systems and content management in digital archives. Her career has always been linked to music and audio-visual preservation. She holds a Master’s degree in Digital Libraries and Information Science and various certifications in digital preservation. Additionally, she has a bachelors degree in music specialising in clarinet performance. She is also a certified trainer, having undertaken the Hibernian Training Delivery and Evaluation Course QQI Level 6.

Her professional journey began as music librarian in the National Radio of Spain, where she specialised in cataloging and selecting relevant materials for the archive and fulfilled user requests. Subsequently, she held the position of music supervisor at RTVE, Spain’s largest public Radio and Television corporation, working within a vast audio-visual archive.

In Ireland, Noelia worked as digital deliveries manager at the Irish Film Institute (IFI), where she oversaw the acquisition of audio-visual materials and implemented best practices for quality control and digital object preservation. She also previously held the position of deputy digital archivist at the DRI where she worked closely with the digital archivist, training and engagement manager, and the DRI technical team to assess incoming digital collections and support DRI members in publishing and preserving their data in the DRI repository. 

DRI is funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS) via the Higher Education Authority (HEA).
