The Library of the Oireachtas has joined the Digital Repository of Ireland as a new member

The Digital Repository of Ireland is delighted to announce the Oireachtas Library as a new member!

The Oireachtas Library and Research Service manages a collection of contemporary and historical material relating to the Irish Parliament, with the collections stretching as far back as the 16th century. The Oireachtas research service delivers impartial research briefings to support the work of the Houses, committees and individual TDs and Senators, as well as producing a series of research publications on key issues.

DRI Director Natalie Harrower said

“We’re pleased to work with the Oireachtas Library in curating and safeguarding these important parliamentary collections. DRI’s support for Open Access and the increased accessibility of public data fits well with the Library’s responsibility to promote their special collections, and enhance the scholarship and research opportunities made possible by these collections. We strongly support their mission of making the history of Ireland’s government more visible to the general public”

Madelaine Dennison, Head of Library and Research Services in the Houses of the Oireachtas, said

“As we approach the centenary of the first sitting of Dáil Éireann, the Oireachtas Library is delighted to become a member of the DRI. By making our special collections more accessible to the public we are supporting the Houses of the Oireachtas vision of ‘A parliament for the people’.  We look forward to working with the DRI to enhance the accessibility of these collections – our parliamentary heritage.”
