The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is delighted to announce that the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has joined as our latest member. The main collections TUS hope to ingest at present relate to the Brendan O’Brien Archive on the All-Ireland Drama Festival (1953-1982) and the Shannon Estuary Project (1987-1992).
The Brendan O’Brien Archive on the All-Ireland Drama Festival contains extensive material including correspondence from notable figures such as Beatrice Behan and Hilton Edwards, along with signed letters from Eamon de Valera, Liam Cosgrave, Harold Wilson and Mary Robinson. The collection features three bound volumes of festival programmes, loose programmes and diaries. Also included are folders of adjudicator reports, press clippings and seating plans.
The Shannon Estuary Project Archive comprises a diverse collection of materials including environmental and water quality management reports, as well as impact studies and environmental monitoring programs. Additional items include food processing and regional development reports, newsletters, flyers and handwritten notes.

On joining DRI, TUS Head Librarian Celine Peignen said:
“We are really looking forward to seeing our collections in the DRI Repository.
TUS Archive & Special Collections houses the Brendan O’Brien archive, documenting the All-Ireland Drama Festival (1953-1982). This includes correspondence, signed letters, festival programmes, diaries, a unique Sportext Hall seating plan, posters, and related documents.
TUS also holds the Shannon Estuary Project Archive, featuring environmental and industrial reports from the 1980s-1990s on water quality, monitoring for Aughinish Alumina Ltd, and regional development studies.”
DRI Director Dr. Lisa Griffith added:
“We are thrilled to welcome the Technological University of the Shannon as members of DRI. Their archives hold invaluable collections documenting Irish arts, culture and theatre – as well vital information relating to our environment and industry.
We at DRI are excited to support TUS in preserving these resources and enhancing their accessibility through the Repository. The addition of members like TUS to DRI strengthens our role as a key regional resource for collections focused on the Irish midlands”.
The Technological University of the Shannon joins a growing number of technical universities that are providing access and long-term preservation for collections through membership of DRI. Visit our membership page to learn more about DRI membership opportunities.
