DRI is committed to supporting, implementing and promoting good practices

DRI is committed to supporting, implementing and promoting good practices in data management and preservation, and works to keep abreast of changing policy and practice relevant to our depositors. We are actively involved in develping Open Science/Open Research in Ireland (eg. via the National Open Research Forum) and globally (e.g. via ALLEA, the OECD, the European Commission and organisations like the Research Data Alliance and Europeana)

In keeping with this commitment, we are pleased to Dr. Natalie Harrower, DRI’s Director, was appointed to the EOSC FAIR Executive Board Working Group. At the European Commission level, the EOSC or European Open Science Cloud is the major umbrella under which official Open Science activity is gathered and developed.

The EOSC FAIR working group provides recommendations on the implementation of  Open and FAIR practices within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). It addresses cross-disciplinary interoperability, gather requirements relevant to the EOSC services, and advise the EOSC Executive and Governance Boards on FAIR-related matters.

The EOSC Executive Board has established five Working Groups in this initial phase to address specific priorities such as Landscape, FAIR, Architecture, Rules of participation and Sustainability.  The FAIR WG will collaborate in particular with the Architecture WGs aiming to operate in close alignment. The former addresses cultural aspects such as semantic and legal interoperability, certification and community data standards, while the latter focusses on the related technical specifications that address FAIR requirements.

The EOSC-FAIR working group will define and implement a FAIR work plan for the EOSC. These will be based on the Action Plan proposed by the EC Expert Group on “Turning FAIR into reality”, as well as ongoing community initiatives and outputs from key projects like FAIRsFAIRRDA and FREYA.

The appointment follows closely the work DRI’s Director has done with the European Commission’s FAIR Expert Group and DRI’s commitment to support Open Science and research data management best practices and developments at both the national and international levels.
