Cuimhneamh an Chláir is running a nationwide Oral History Mentoring Programme in May / June 2024. This is a free peer-to-peer mentoring programme available to community groups who are interested in collecting oral history.

About the Programme

Founded in 2009, Cuimhneamh an Chláir is an independent, voluntary group which digitally records, archives and shares the oral heritage of Co. Clare, through interviews with the county’s older citizens. To do this, the organisations trains and mobilises volunteers who visit people in their own communities to record their stories.

Cuimhneamh an Chláir is the only structured, county-wide, community-based oral history gathering initiative in Ireland. They ran a successful mentoring programme in 2023, supporting groups from Dublin to Kerry and from Kildare to Galway.

In 2024, the organisation will mentor a further seven groups and as part of the programme, Cuimhneamh an Chláir will:

– Support learning into action,
– Provide equipment and resources,
– Provide peer-to-peer mentoring and feedback regarding recording and editing,
– Explore ways of constituting your oral history group and safeguarding your recordings,
– Support you to prepare and present your work a Showcase Day on 29 June 2024.

Training is free of charge and takes place in Ennis, Co. Clare on Friday 10 May, Thursday 6 June, and Saturday 29 June (full day 10.30 – 4pm). Training is in person.  This has proven the most effective context for hands-on learning and the most powerful way to develop peer support networks.
