We are delighted to announce that the Irish Jesuit Archives have joined DRI as a Member. The Irish Jesuit Archives (IJA) contains the records of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in Ireland from 1575 onwards. The archives role is to preserve the memory of Irish Jesuit life and works in Ireland, Australia, Hong Kong and Zambia, across many generations, in times of persecution and exile, and in times of prosperity and growth.

The Irish Jesuit Archives understands that the care of our digital heritage is as rare, unique and valuable, as the material preserved from the 16th century. In joining the DRI, the Irish Jesuit Archives seeks to share and engage with fellow DRI members. The archive is enthusiastic by the prospect of learning from best practice, that the DRI has developed regarding the preservation and access to Ireland’s digital heritage,’  said Damien Burke, Archivist at the Irish Jesuit Archives.

DRI Director Natalie Harrower said: ‘The Irish Jesuit Archives offer an incredibly diverse collection of artefacts over time (from the 16th century to present), space (Ireland, Australia, Asia and Africa) and media, from photographs to film and from paper records to tape recordings. By joining DRI, the IJA can offer their expertise to other members in caring for religious archives, while at the same time fostering a culture of digital preservation in their own organisation. We are happy to welcome them aboard and look forward to exploring their unique and fascinating records.
