Applications are invited for the position of Membership Manager as part of the Digital Repository of Ireland team based at the Royal Irish Academy (3-year fixed-term contract).

Since the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) launched its membership model in 2018, 35 organisations/institutions have joined, making the function of member relations key to DRI’s operations. This new role will be a key contributor to DRI’s deliverables, providing support to members, identifying new potential members or areas for growth, managing membership administration and building capacity in DRI’s membership offerings. Reporting to the Director of DRI, the successful candidate will be an organised, self-motivated individual who communicates well with DRI’s membership organisations who are drawn from higher education, culture and government. Based at the Royal Irish Academy, the Membership Manager will collaborate closely with DRI’s cross-disciplinary, distributed staff who are based at the Royal Irish Academy, Trinity College Dublin and Maynooth University.

Key responsibilities 

  • Serve as the liaison for DRI’s current and potential members, guiding new members from application through invoicing to announcement
  • Build a membership database/customer relationship management system to monitor member engagement and deposits, and report on requirements and membership development
  • Work with members to assess their current needs, plan for future needs (technical, archival, educational, policy) and liaise with appropriate DRI staff to meet these needs.
  • Liaise with the DRI Education & Outreach Manager to identify training needs and materials and assist with training
  • Chair DRI’s membership taskforce, setting meetings, monitoring action items, providing reports and/or discussion points to the Director or DRI staff meeting as appropriate
  • Organise member events (e.g. Members’ Forum, coffee mornings)
  • Contribute to DRI taskforces, reports, project proposals and other DRI duties as assigned

Essential criteria

  • Degree in an area relevant to DRI’s remit, e.g. humanities, social sciences, information, librarianship/archival studies, data management or equivalent
  • Significant demonstrable experience working in the higher education or cultural sector, ideally in a research or research support role
  • Skills and expertise in one or more of the following areas: digital preservation, digital repositories, archives or libraries, digital humanities or digital social sciences, digital cultural heritage, research data management, metadata
  • Evidence of skills in landscape analysis and strategic planning
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with evidence of experience in stakeholder engagement
  • Experience in organising events, from planning through design to delivery

Desirable criteria

  • Postgraduate degree and/or experience in academia as a researcher, lecturer or research librarian/archivist
  • Demonstrable experience working with members in a membership-based organisation
  • Experience in an outreach or engagement role
  • Experience of developing and providing training on specific topics at the level required
