As part of the EOSC Future project, the Research Data Alliance (RDA) has issued two new open calls for Domain Ambassadors and Cross-disciplinary Adoption projects.

As part of the EOSC Future project, the Research Data Alliance (RDA) has issued two new open calls for Domain Ambassadors and Cross-disciplinary Adoption projects. These calls for proposals belong to a series of ‘RDA open calls’ supporting a European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) that satisfies the FAIR data and resource management needs of Europe’s research communities. Applications are open until 15 September 2022 16.00 CEST, via the EOSC Future Grants Platform

Domain Ambassadors

This is the second of two EOSC Future Domain Ambassadors Open Calls offering grants to recognised domain experts and skilled communicators who can work to promote data sharing and open science practices among their disciplines. Grants awarded are up to a maximum of €10.000,00 per grant.

RDA/EOSC Future is building a network of ambassadors to support activities designed to build awareness around the work and outputs of EOSC Future from a disciplinary perspective. This network will also help disciplinary experts grow their own networks and collaborate with like-minded people and organisations via RDA. Successful applications will ensure that benefits such as good data management and data sharing techniques are brought back to the disciplinary communities served and that domain-specific needs and input are streamlined into the work supporting the development of EOSC.

This call is additionally targeted towards applicants interested in raising awareness within underrepresented research communities in EOSC, particularly*:

*Agriculture, Forests and Fisheries – Astronomy – Biodiversity – Bioinformatics – Chemical Sciences – Cultural Heritage – Earth and Related Environmental Sciences – Health Ageing Retirement  –  Health Sciences –    Librarianship, Archival Science – Linguistics – Materials Sciences – Open Government Sustainable Development Goals – Scholarly Communications – Wind Energy

Cross-disciplinary Adoption

As an organisation, RDA aims to expand awareness of technical and social infrastructure solutions as well as recommendations for enabling data sharing, exchange and interoperability on a global scale. In the context of the EOSC Future project, this specific call for proposals invites small community projects to test out and adapt cross-disciplinary practices within EOSC, according to RDA outputs and recommendations. This call will award up to 4 grants, each totalling a maximum of €50 000, over the course of the EOSC Future project.

Proposals should be able to demonstrate, among other elements:

  • a methodology for streamlining cross-disciplinary research
  • specific benefits for research communities using EOSC services (e.g. (e.g. data management & storage, cloud services, etc.)
  • examples or lessons learnt related to open, community-led standards and cross-domain interoperability
  • a commitment to the cross-disciplinary implementation of RDA outputs and recommendations.

Competitive applications will not only represent community-based, domain-specific research but also exemplify a commitment to FAIR data and data interoperability. Applicants are expected to propose a coherent dissemination plan that covers 6-9 months of work.

Who can apply?

The Research Data Alliance welcomes applications from persons or groups committed to FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data and other principles that RDA holds dear. Applicants can be researchers (junior or senior), data scientists, part of a European research group, organisation or SME. Note: This call is not open to members of the EOSC Future consortium or projects based outside of an EU Member State or Associated Country.

Further criteria and conditions are detailed on the EOSC Future Grants Platform.  Or email: RDA Open Calls <rda-opencalls@rda-foundation.org>

Deadline

Both calls are open for applications until 15 September 2022, 16.00 CEST
