Official launch of Inspiring Ireland 1916 'Weaving Public & Private Narratives'.

Tuesday 19 January sees the launch of Inspiring Ireland 1916, a series of online exhibits focusing on the known and not-so-known stories of the Rising, and the events and lives that were affected along the way.

Inspiring Ireland 1916 is a brand new series of exhibitions of the cultural artefacts, stories and interpretation that surround 1916, built on the multiple-award-winning website Inspiring Ireland. The Inspiring Ireland website, powered by DRI's preservation infrastructure, will exhibit a rich combination of ‘found objects’ from private collections alongside iconic ‘national treasures’ from Ireland’s National Cultural Institutions and our Public Broadcaster, RTÉ. Personal perspectives will weave together with instantly recognisable digitised content in the public cultural heritage domain, creating a dynamic, multi-media reflection of people and events of 1916 and its legacy. Many of the objects in the collections come from the series of public memorabilia collection days that Inspiring Ireland has hosted (with more to come). Find out more in our blog post about the collection day process.

Inspiring Ireland 1916 will be formally launched at a ticketed gala event in the Royal Irish Academy. For more information about Inspiring Ireland 1916, visit the website.

DRI is funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS) via the Higher Education Authority (HEA) and the Irish Research Council (IRC).
