April’s coffee morning will be hosted by Kathryn Cassidy, Software Engineer at DRI, and Padraic Stack, Senior Librarian at Dublin City Library and Archive (DCLA) and will provide a Transcribathon Project Update.
The DRI Virtual Coffee Mornings are a place for DRI’s staff and members to come together and discuss digital preservation topics, challenges, or projects in a relaxed environment. April’s Coffee Morning takes place Wednesday 27 of April at 10.00 am for half an hour and is a project update. In March, Dr Kathryn Cassidy, Software Engineer at the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI), and Padraic Stack, Senior Librarian Dublin City Library and Archive (DCLA), ran #TranscriptionWeek, a week-long series of crowdsourced transcription workshops for the EnrichEuropeana+ project. You can find out more about the events they hosted here. Kathryn and Padraic also gave DRI members a preview in March of the crowd-sourcing tool and discussed the aims of transcription week. In this follow up event they will discuss the outcome of transcription week, how it worked, levels of engagement, and what the next steps are for their project. Please note – you do not need to have attended any of the transcription week events to attend this coffee morning.
Kathryn Cassidy is a software engineer at DRI. Kathryn led DRI’s involved in the Europeana Common Culture Project and is leading our participation in the EnrichEuropana+ project. Kathryn is one of DRI’s PIs for Digital Preservation of Reproductive Health Resources: Archiving the 8th project which was funded by the Wellcome Trust.
Padraic Stack is Senior Librarian in the Digitisation section of Dublin City Libraries. He is a qualified Librarian and holds an M.A. in Digital Humanities. He works with collections from Dublin’s eclectic cultural and historical past before, during and after their digitisation.
This event will be of particular interest to members who have manuscript sources in their collections. There’s more information on DRI’s links with Europeana here. If there is a particular topic you would like to see covered at a future session or you would like to host a session, please email members@dri.ie
