Profile

Dr Zenobie Susanne Garrett is the first Early Career Researcher (ECR) to be appointed to the DRI Board. She currently works as a postdoctoral researcher on ‘OS200: Digitally Re-Mapping Ireland’s Ordnance Survey Heritage’, a three-year project jointly funded by the Irish Research Council (IRC) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), as part of a €6.5m programme of research bringing together world-leading expertise in the digital humanities across the UK and Ireland. The project aims to gather historic Ordnance Survey (OS) maps and texts from disparate archives in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to form a single freely accessible online resource for academic and public use.

Zenobie is an archaeologist who has worked in Ireland since 2007 at the site of Dún Ailinne (Co. Kildare), currently listed on the tentative list for UNESCO world heritage status.  She received her PhD from New York University in 2016, where she focused on geospatial analyses and remote sensing techniques.  In 2018, she became a postdoctoral fellow for 3D/VR/AR curation at the University of Oklahoma libraries.  While at the library, she was involved in the creation of a 3D scanning lab within the library focused on aiding researchers in the creation and preservation of 3D data as well as consulting on 3D research design.  She was also involved in the implementation of the library’s first Digital Scholarship fellowship and served on several library committees.

DRI is funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS) via the Higher Education Authority (HEA) and the Irish Research Council (IRC).
