The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is pleased to announce that the Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland (HERoNI) has joined as our latest member – marking a significant milestone as our first member from Northern Ireland.
HERoNI holds information on all elements of Northern Ireland’s historic environment in the form of databases, written records, maps, photographic, drawn and digital material. They hold significant records and collections of national importance relating to all aspects of the historic environment.
Information curated by HERoNI includes all surviving physical remains of past human activity in Northern Ireland, whether visible, buried, submerged or landscaped.
On joining DRI, Senior Archaeologist Emma McBride said:
HERoNI is an evolving resource and we welcome joining DRI as it will help us preserve our vast array of information and provide a platform to make it more readily available to everyone. Our first focus will be publishing Northern Ireland’s excavation data through DRI.
DRI Interim Director Lisa Griffith added:
We are delighted to announce that the Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland (HERoNI) have joined DRI as members. They join a growing number of Irish Archaeology Centres, including the Discovery Programme and TII, who have made DRI the repository for their data. We are proud to now say that we work with archaeologists from across the island of Ireland to preserve their digital records and ensure they are accessible for the long term, and we look forward to working with more Northern Irish organisations in the future.
