Call for nominations to the DRI Board

The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is seeking expressions of interest from members of the DRI to fill two vacancies which have arisen on the DRI Board. Any staff member from a full-member institution is eligible to nominate themselves for consideration for appointment. There is no limit on the number of nominations per institution, but the sitting board is limited to one person per member institution.

Board members serve 3-year terms, and cannot serve more than 2 consecutive terms. There shall be no more than one Board member per DRI member organisation. The Board is expected to meet at a minimum twice per annum. Current board membership can be found on the DRI Board webpage

Functions of the Board

The main function of the Board is to foster the long-term success of the DRI consistent with the DRI’s responsibilities to its funders. These functions fall under three broad categories:

a)  Strategic Direction

  • Provide guidance to the DRI Director on the implementation of DRI’s 2025–2029 Strategic plan (Gaeilge, English)
  • Support and enhance the public standing of the DRI, and facilitate the recruitment of new members

b)  Performance Management

  • Review the DRI’s annual activities and programme of work
  • Monitor progress towards delivery of the strategic plan and other organisational policies’ key performance indicators

c)   Governance

  • Encourage the highest standard of corporate governance, examining transparency, ethical integrity, and accountability
  • Operate in the best interests of the DRI

Criteria for appointment

Board members are generally expected to demonstrate:

  • Experience with good corporate governance
  • Experience in developing and executing organisational vision and business plans
  • An understanding of issues relevant to one or more of the following areas: digital preservation, digital archiving, research data management, digital social/cultural heritage, digital humanities, European e-Research infrastructures
  • Significant experience across Ireland’s Higher Education and/or Cultural Sectors
  • Significant expertise in raising funds through research grants, philanthropy, or industry

Nominations

Nominations can be made by filling in the 2025 DRI Board Nominations Form (Word Doc) below and submitting it to Áine Madden at a.madden@ria.ie.

Nominations will close on 21 February 2025.

The DRI is headquartered at the Royal Irish Academy (RIA). The Academy, as an all-island body, welcomes expressions of interest from all of the regions on the island of Ireland, and seeks diversity in its committee membership.
