The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is delighted to announce that Dunkineely Community Ltd has joined as our forty-first member. Formed in 2012, they are a non-profit organisation whose aim is to support and promote the Donegal communities of Dunkineely, Killaghtee, Bruckless and the wider surrounding localities. They have a five-point focus which looks at community, business, tourism and infrastructure as well as the development of St John’s Point as a tourist destination. Dunkineely has joined DRI to preserve the surveys they are undertaking of St John’s Point and McSwyne’s Castle

Paul Smith of Dunkineely Community Ltd said:

We are so excited to be joining the DRI Community. This has been an exciting year for us, joining Adopt A Monument through our work on the Old Killaghtee Church and Graveyard on St John’s Point, and getting Heritage Grants to carry out conservation reports on the Church and nearby McSwyne’s Castle. But we recognise that the sites themselves will become forgotten if we don’t gather and record the history, pictures and local stories that bring these places to life. We are at an early stage of gathering data and interpretation, so are looking forward to learning from you all, to make our own project a success.

DRI Director Natalie Harrower added:

Dunkineely Community Ltd’s membership of DRI speaks to the growth in awareness of digital preservation and the importance of finding a home for community records, and born-digital records. DCL’s efforts to support their community through everything from conservation to beach-cleanups speak to an active and engaged community spirit, and we are pleased to play a role in stewarding their data. Sitting alongside collections like those from Transport Infrastructure Ireland, these collections will make for rich discovery and cross-analysis.
