'Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland' is a finalist for the prestigious Digital Preservation Award for Safeguarding the Digital Legacy. This Award celebrates iniatives for their practical application of preservation tools to protect at-risk digital objects.
'Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland' is one of three finalists for the prestigious Digital Preservation Award for Safeguarding the Digital Legacy. This Award celebrates initiatives for their practical application of preservation tools to protect at-risk digital objects.
The three finalists for The National Archives Award for Safeguarding the Digital Legacy are:
- Preserving the League of Nations digital archives
- UK Web Archive: celebrating 15 years
- Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland
Sponsor of the Award for Safeguarding the Digital Legacy, John Sheridan of The National Archives (UK), said: 'this award embodies the very essence of digital preservation. All three finalists have challenged threats to our digital estate and are saving important digital collections which might otherwise have been lost.'
‘Amplifying Change’ is a collaborative project between the DRI and the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections (RMC) at Cornell University Library, New York. The collaboration aims to build and disseminate a vibrant, sustainable, and openly accessible digital archive and online exhibition of the impact of the Atlantic Philanthropies grantees on the island of Ireland, consisting of select business records and new oral histories that reflect Atlantic’s grantmaking philosophy, approach, and impact in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. This collaborative project was officially launched at a celebratory online event on 10 September 2020. The digital preservation community will have the chance to hear more about the work of the 'Amplifying Change' project team, as they will form part of the #WeMissiPRES program dedicated to showcasing ‘The Best of Digital Preservation in 2020’ on Wednesday 23rd September 2020.
The winners of the Digital Preservation Awards will be announced on World Digital Preservation Day on 5th November 2020 as part of an online celebration with the digital preservation community, friends, family and peers from leading organisations.
The Digital Preservation Awards are a world-wide celebration of significant and state-of-the-art contributions to securing our digital legacy and just one of the ways the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) helps to raise awareness of the strategic, cultural, and technological issues which make up the digital preservation challenge. DRI are honoured to be recognised as part of this celebration of excellence in the field of digital preservation.
