DRI is seeking two new board members

The Digital Repository of Ireland is seeking expressions of interest from Members of the DRI to fill two vacancies which have arisen on the Digital Repository of Ireland’s (DRI) Board.

The Digital Repository of Ireland is seeking expressions of interest from Members of the DRI to fill two vacancies which have arisen on the Digital Repository of Ireland’s (DRI) Board. Any staff member from a Full  Member institution is eligible to nominate themselves for consideration for appointment (see list of Members below). There is no limit on the number of nominations per institution but the sitting board is limited to one person per member institution.

Board members serve 3-year terms; and cannot serve more than 2 consecutive terms. There shall be no more than 1 Board member per DRI member organisation. The Board is expected to meet at minimum twice per annum. Current board membership can be found on the DRI website here: https://www.dri.ie/dri-management-board.

Purpose of the Board

The main function of the Board is to foster the long-term success of the DRI consistent with the DRI’s responsibilities to its funders. These functions fall under three broad categories:

a) Strategic Direction

  • Provide guidance to the DRI Director, with a view to the DRI’s long-term sustainability
  • Participate in the development of DRI’s Strategy, approve yearly strategic plans and periodic multi-year strategies.
  • Support and enhance the public standing of the DRI, and facilitate the recruitment of new members

b) Performance Management

  • Review the DRI’s activities and approve the annual Director’s Report
  • Monitor progress towards strategic goals as measured by key performance indicators

c) Governance

  • Encourage the highest standard of corporate governance, examining transparency, ethical integrity, and accountability
  • Operate in the best interests of the DRI

Criteria for Appointment

Board members are generally expected to demonstrate:

  • Experience with good corporate governance
  • Experience in developing and executing organisational vision and business plans
  • An understanding of issues relevant to one or more of the following areas: digital preservation, digital archiving, research data management, digital social/cultural heritage, digital humanities, European e-Research infrastructures
  • Significant experience across Ireland’s Higher Education, Cultural Sectors, or governmental records sectors
  • Significant expertise in raising funds through research grants, philanthropy, or industry
