DRI are delighted to announce that we are finalists in the The National Archives Award for Safeguarding the Digital Legacy, in the 2016 Digital Preservation Awards!
Awarded by the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), the Digital Preservation Awards recognise groups and individuals worldwide who are committed to safeguarding and making available digital material for the long term. The National Archives Award for Safeguarding the Digital Legacy is among the most prestigious of the awards, highlighting organisations with a proven record in high quality digital preservation. DRI's nomination and progress to finalist stage is a testament to our status as a trusted digital repository, committed to our remit of preserving and sharing Ireland's digital cultural legacy.
Vice chair of the judging panel with responsibility for the Digital Legacy award, Louise Lawson of Tate Britain, said: "This award embodies the very essence of digital preservation. All three finalists have challenged threats to our digital estate and are saving important digital collections which might otherwise have been lost."
"We are thrilled to be named as a finalist in the Digital Preservation Awards – this is a top honour in our field. DRI was nominated on the basis of a broad set of achievements, including our interoperable approach to metadata, use of open source architecture, our efforts to build the digital preservation and digital archiving communities in Ireland through training, code contributions, and outreach, our development of unique projects such as Inspiring Ireland, and our commitment to both local, at-risk collections alongside our contributions to international networks of best practice," said Dr Natalie Harrower, DRI's Director. "This honour reflects the dedicated, innovative and enthusiastic work of our entire team."
The awards will be announced at the Wellcome Trust in London on 30 November 2016. For more information, and to read more about DRI's nomination, visit the DPC website.
