The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is pleased to announce that a new sub-collection – Excavation Reports and Related Resources – has been published in the Knowth Excavation Archive in the Repository through the Royal Irish Academy (RIA). The material forms the basis of the Excavations at Knowth monograph series.

The Excavation Reports and Related Resources sub-collection holds additional research material and original reports that are not published in the seven-volumes of the Excavation at Knowth books.
The reports specifically detail:
– All of the surfaces at Knowth carved with megalithic art – omitting surfaces with very uncertain carvings and those that feature only early medieval inscriptions.
– A survey of the alignment of tome of the Knowth satellite tombs carried out around and inside tombs 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18 and 20, using a robotic total station with reflectorless capabilities.
Of this ingest, Helena King, Senior Editor at the Royal Irish Academy said:
Our Excavations at Knowth collection in the Digital Repository of Ireland houses not only the seven published volumes relating to the excavations, but also sub-collections of original excavation reports – including site drawings, photographs, and other specialist research that made the published series possible.
The digital preservation of these publications, documents and archival material as an open-access resource means that the knowledge revealed through the excavations and related research will be easily accessible for current and future generations of archaeologists and others.
