Date

Thursday, 4th November 2021

A DRI webinar that will introduce the EU Copyright Directive, led by Ariadna Matas of the Europeana Foundation.

10am – 12 pm (IST) / 11am – 1pm (CET)

The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) invites you to join us for a webinar that will introduce the EU Copyright Directive, led by Ariadna Matas of the Europeana Foundation. We will be joined by Gyta Berasnevičiūtė of the European Union Intellectual Property Office.* This webinar is geared towards those working in the diverse areas represented by DRI’s members, in cultural heritage, the humanities, and the social sciences.

The session will:

– Provide an overview of the relevant articles in the Directive. This will focus on: the provisions on text and data mining; preservation; education; out of commerce works; and the public domain.

– Give examples of what might change relating to specific activities, and the options that national policy-makers can rely on.

– Demonstrate the Out-of-commerce portal that institutions will have to go through to be able to rely on the provisions.

– Give an update on where Ireland is with the Directive’s transposition.

Discussion and questions will be invited and encouraged during this informative meeting, and there will be a break. This event is free of charge and open to all, though registration is required via DRI’s Zoom

The training has been organised as a contribution to World Digital Preservation Day, which this year has the theme of ‘Breaking Down Barriers’.

If you have any questions in advance of the webinar, please contact Dr Deborah Thorpe, DRI Education and Outreach Manager: d.thorpe@ria.ie
