We are pleased to announce that "Dublin Core and the Digital Repository of Ireland Version 2" has been published. This is an updated version of our original guidelines to preparing Dublin Core metadata for DRI ingestion guidelines, which was published in January 2015. This updated version reflects updates and changes to our Repository infrastructure since its official launch in June.
The guidelines are part of DRI’s ongoing series of publications. The Repository supports a wide range of metadata schema and our guidelines are intended to support the publication of multiple metadata schema in the Repository, and to facilitate cross-searching of diverse collections. These guidelines are the fourth in our series on metadata preparation for DRI. More guidelines, encompassing a broad range of schema, will be published in the coming months, including guidelines on EAD, MODS and MARC. Our metadata guidelines publication programme was structured around the findings of our 2012 report, Digital Archiving in Ireland, a report which collated findings on digital archiving practice and metadata schema which are currently in use in Ireland across libraries, archives, museums and other repositories.
Our guidelines are not intended to modify or replace standard schema, but to aid cataloguers in selecting which metadata elements to include, and to advise on the application of standardised formats and vocabularies.
Cataloguers should refer to the newly published Version 2, as well as to our guidelines on Qualified Dublin Core, when preparing Dublin Core metadata for ingest into DRI.
