Following the success of recent Inspiring Ireland 1916 public memorabilia 'collection days' in Dublin, the Digital Repository of Ireland is delighted to announce that it is holding three new collection day events in London, New York and Belfast.

Inspiring Ireland 1916 is a single online portal that tells the public and private stories about everyday life in Ireland in 1916. Launched in January 2016, the site has already attracted global attention. It allows users worldwide to discover and make personal connections between private objects and memories relating to 1916, and the extensive collections of Irish cultural Institutions and archives of the national public broadcasting service.

These collection days will enable members of the public in these cities to share their personal objects (such as letters, diaries, photographs and ephemera) and family stories related to events in Ireland during 1916, and to have this material digitised by experts, free of charge, for preservation and display within the DRI repository and Inspiring Ireland sites. The events are part of Ireland 2016, the official programme to mark the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising and the international events are supported by the Irish Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
