DRI are delighted to announce that we have been short-listed for a 2017 Ireland eGovernment Award!
The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) has been shortlisted in the category of 'Promoting Ireland Overseas' in the 2017 Ireland eGovernment Awards. These awards are now in their 15th year and are designed to recognise excellence and innovation by state agencies, local authorities and public sector departments who are pioneering change in the delivery of eGovernment services in Ireland, as well as to private sector companies who partner on eGovernment projects
DRI are shortlisted for the exhibition Frongoch and 1916: Recreating a Lost Landscape, launched in December 2016. Frongoch and 1916 is an exciting new series of exhibitions built on the Inspiring Ireland digital cultural heritage platform, to mark the centenary of the internment camp at Frongoch, Wales. Sponsored by Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the project features a series of new curated exhibitions of digital cultural heritage objects from Irish and Welsh sources, combining items in public collections with those shared from private collections, alongside expert commentary from leading scholars of the period. Inspiring Ireland also promotes cultural exchange between Ireland and Wales, by contributing digital objects to the People’s Collection Wales, a website that allows the public to share their “memories of Wales in photographs, sound recordings, documents, videos and stories”.
As Ireland’s national trusted digital repository for humanities and social science data, DRI has been facilitating and promoting long-term preservation of and access to our cultural heritage since our official launch in June 2015. The repository links together and preserves both historical and contemporary data held by Irish institutions, providing a central internet access point and interactive multimedia tools. As a national e-infrastructure for the future of education and research in the humanities and social sciences, DRI is available for use by the public, students and scholars. This is not the first time DRI has come to the attention of the eGovernment Awards. In 2015, both the DRI and our Inspiring Ireland project were shortlisted in a number of categories and DRI won the event’s Overall Award, which includes the finalists from all projects and organisations shortlisted for an award in 2014. in 2016, DRI was shortlisted in the Promoting Ireland Overseas category.
The Ireland eGovernment Awards, in association with eir Business and Cisco, recognise the innovators and forward thinkers who are pioneering changes and helping deliver better online services for Irish citizens today. The awards are Ireland’s most sought-after accolades in Irish eGovernment, honouring the leaders driving digital services, communication and democracy online.
The winners of the 2017 eGovernment Awards will be announced at a ceremony on 26 May 2017 in Dublin Castle.
