DRI invites you to join us for a live, celebratory online launch of the archival project ‘Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland’. The event will feature a rich line-up of key figures in the advancement of human rights, peace, and social justice from across the island of Ireland.

The Digital Repository of Ireland has been working with the archives of the Atlantic Philanthropies, held by Cornell University Library, to develop digital exhibitions that showcase the work accomplished by Atlantic grant recipients on the island of Ireland over the last 30 years. The exhibitions include digitised Atlantic archives combined with commissioned essays and newly collected oral histories from across the island to explore the challenges and impact of working for social change. The title of the new site is ‘Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland’.
To mark the open, online publication of the first series of exhibitions on the theme of Human Rights, the Digital Repository of Ireland invites you to join a celebratory launch event, which will feature a brief introduction to the project followed by an online roundtable discussion with a rich line-up of key figures in the advancement of human rights, peace, and social justice from across the island of Ireland. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A session.

Colin Harvey | Professor Human Rights Law, Queen’s University Belfast, Fellow of the Senator George J Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice.
Salome Mbugua | Researcher and human rights advocate. Founder of national network of migrant women living in Ireland, AkiDwA.
Susan McKay | Award-winning journalist, writer, and broadcaster.
Martin O’Brien | Human rights campaigner and writer; former Executive Director of the Committee for the Administration of Justice; former Senior Vice President of Programmes, Atlantic Philanthropies.
Lynn Ruane | Independent Senator, writer and campaigner on issues of justice and equality.
This event is free, and open to all, though registration is mandatory. The event will take place over Zoom but it is not necessary to have a Zoom account to join. The launch of the project will be followed by the release of a series of informative blog posts and resource videos that will contextualise the digital exhibitions and provide guidance on how to search the archive. More information to follow!
