A CFP has been issued for the 2nd International Workshop on Computational History and Data-Driven Humanities
The 2nd International Workshop on Computational History and Data-Driven Humanities will take place on May 25th 2016 in Dublin.
This workshop focuses on the challenges and opportunities of data-driven humanities and seeks to bring together world-leading scientists and scholars at the forefront of this emerging field, at the interface between computer science, social science, humanities and mathematics. DRI co-hosted the first instance of this workshop with The Knowledge and Data Engineering Group (KDEG) at Trinity College Dublin, and it was held in the Royal Irish Academy on June 27, 2014. This event focused on two main themes: teaching history to computers – introducing technologies and tools in order to extract knowledge from historical records in a form that can be processed by computers without losing its meaningfulness – and calculating the unknown, where international scientists, working at the forefront of mathematical and theoretical analysis of historical data, described what is possible with current tools.
This time, the workshop will build on the themes of the first year, examining the large-scale computational analysis and interpretation of historical knowledge that has been made available in a form that computers can process. It will be co-hosted by KDEG with the Social Networking Semantics and Collective Intelligence Working Group of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and will take place in Trinity College Dublin. The organisers are seeking computer scientists and digital humanities experts to introduce and describe the application of technologies and tools for extraction of knowledge from historical records, and the theoretical scope of current tools.
