The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is proud to have attained the CoreTrustSeal for a second time, in 2021, following on from our award in 2018. A newly-published report details the work undertaken to achieve this certification, and contains the text submitted to the certification board.

CoreTrustSeal is an international, community based, non-governmental, and non-profit organisation promoting sustainable and trustworthy data infrastructures. For Core certification, data repositories supply evidence that they are sustainable and trustworthy. A repository first conducts an internal self-assessment, which is then reviewed by community peers.

This report by DRI on our application aims to provide both information and guidance. As DRI Director Natalie Harrower states in the report:

In sharing this document more widely, we have two aims. First, we would like to increase the transparency of repository processes, and to explain in more detail what it means to be a trustworthy digital repository… Second, we hope that making our application available – detailing the various aspects of certification – will both encourage and assist other repositories in preparing for CoreTrustSeal certification.

DRI Policy Manager Aileen O’Carroll explains that ‘an audit framework will help you develop your repository, learn from the experience of others and gain the trust of your stakeholders. For the Digital Repository of Ireland, that framework is the CoreTrustSeal’.

We are delighted to have attained this certification once more, and hope that this report helps others to learn from our experience.
