Context

Sara R. Phillips is the chair of the Transgender Equality Network [TENI], an Irish non-profit organisation founded in 2006, which seeks to improve conditions and rights for transgender people and their families in Ireland. Sara has been a facilitator of the Dublin Trans Peer Support Group before becoming the chair of TENI in 2012.

This forty-three-minute long oral history interview was conducted by the Digital Repository of Ireland as part of The Atlantic Philanthropies archive project (2017-2020) titled Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland in 2018., Sara R. Phillips describes how she became the first chair of TENI. Sara elaborates the current position and history of transgender communities in Ireland and talks about how funding from The Atlantic Philanthropies has helped to advocate for legal rights of transgendered people., and This recording contains the personal views of the participants, they do not reflect the views of the DRI.
