Context

Kelly Fitzgerald is an Assistant Professor in the School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore, UCD. She graduated in folklore and early (medieval) Irish at University College Dublin and defended her doctoral dissertation in 2009. She is also Chairperson of ANU Productions and a Director of the National Folklore Foundation.

This nineteen-minute long oral history interview was conducted by the Digital Repository of Ireland as part of The Atlantic Philanthropies archive project (2017-2020) titled Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland in 2018., In this interview, Kelly Fitzgerald talks about how she received a The Programme for Research in Third-Level Institutions [PRTLI} scholarship to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy at the Micheál O’Cléirigh Institute at University College Dublin between the years 2005 to 2007. The Irish government’s PRTLI received funding from the Atlantic Philanthropies. Kelly comments on that and explains what her experience was to benefit from it, at that time., and This recording contains the personal views of the participants, they do not reflect the views of the DRI.
