Context

Transgender Equality Network Ireland [TENI] is a non-profit organisation that seeks to improve conditions and advance the rights and equality of trans people and their families. The organisation’s vision is an Ireland where trans people are understood, accepted and respected, and can participate fully in all aspects of Irish society. TENI has dedicated its resources to the ending of transphobia, including stigma, discrimination and inequality and continues to work for social, political and legal recognition of trans people in Ireland since 2006.

In 2009 the Transgender Equality Network [TENI] of Ireland were awarded €450,000 to support the development of an active and sustainable organisation to advocate for the needs and greater legal protections of transgendered people in Ireland. The grant is titled Building Sustainable LGBT Communities and is intended to be core support for TENI. Gradually released over a three year period, the funding was to support the development of an active and sustainable organisation to advocate for the needs and greater legal protections of transgendered people.

Description:

The seventy-five-page long document details the proposal to the Atlantic Philanthropies by the Transgender Equality Network [TENI] for the building of sustainable LGBT communities. The document is submitted by BeLonG To, Cork Gay Community Development Project, Dundalk Outcomers, GLEN, L.inC, OutHouse, Outwest, Rainbow Support Services and TENI. The grant proposal includes an executive summary, organisational mission and project context, intended outcomes, activities and evidence base, evaluation and dissemination of the proposed programme. It finalises by detailing an operational model as well as risks and mitigation.
