Context

Stephanie Ortoleva is a lawyer as well as the founder and chief executive of Woman Enabled International, a non-profit organization which works at the intersection of women’s rights and disability rights and educates and advocates internationally for the human rights of women and girls with disabilities. Stephanie is from the United States of America and was visiting lecturer at the NUI Galway Centre for Disability in 2018.

This twenty-three-minute long oral history interview was conducted by the Digital Repository of Ireland as part of The Atlantic Philanthropies archive project (2017-2020) titled Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland in 2018., In this interview Stephanie Ortoleva explains her background and reasons behind the foundation of Women Enabled International, the human rights issues of women and girls with disabilities. She details some of the collaborative projects with disabled women organisations worldwide and gives some examples of Women Enabled International’s legal work to date., and This recording contains the personal views of the participants, they do not reflect the views of the DRI.
