Oral history interview of Paul Caskey

Context

Paul Caskey has been awarded a Master of Philosophy in Peace Studies from Trinity College in 1993 and a Bachelor of Honours in Politics from Queens University Belfast in 1992. Since the year 2000, he is the campaign director for the Integrated Education Fund [IEF], a Belfast organisation with the vision that educating all children together is an essential part of the reconciliation process in Northern Ireland and of building a society that celebrates respect, understanding, and friendships across traditional divides.

Description:
The thirty-nine-minute long oral history interview was conducted by the Digital Repository of Ireland as part of The Atlantic Philanthropies archive project (2017-2020) titled Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland in 2019., In this interview, Paul Caskey gives background to his working with The Integrated Education Fund and explains the educational system in Northern Ireland. He outlines the growth of integrated schools from 1981 when the first integrated college, Lagan College was established. Paul explains the role of the Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education [NICIE] and Integrate My School campaign. Paul talks about the impact of The Atlantic Philanthropies on the organisation and its mission. The Nobel Peace Prize [2019] nomination for IEF is mentioned as well as the international links of IEF in advising other post-conflict societies on integrated education., and This recording contains the personal views of the participants, they do not reflect the views of the DRI.
