Cathal Kerrigan is a Librarian at University College Cork and a co-founder of Cork Gay Collective, which has links to the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network [GLEN].

Description:
This fifty-seven-minute long oral history interview was conducted by the Digital Repository of Ireland as part of The Atlantic Philanthropies archive project (2017-2020) titled Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland in 2018., In this interview Cathal Kerrigan gives an insight into to the history of the gay and lesbian rights movement in Ireland. He talks about the first national conference for the gay and lesbian community and explains how the name GLEN was arrived at. He also talks about the importance of the European Court of Human Rights ruling [1988] to the community, his work with the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, and the Marriage Equality referendum in Ireland in 2015., and This recording contains the personal views of the participants, they do not reflect the views of the DRI.
