Context

The Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation is a non-governmental charitable organisation located in the Republic of Ireland. Their goal is to promote peace and reconciliation within and between communities through facilitated dialogue and learning. The organisation was founded in 1974 as a response to violent conflict in Ireland and in light of a conviction that non-violent solutions must be pursued to encourage reconciliation within and between communities. The organisation assists in the building of improbable relationships by providing the space for difficult conversations to take place.

In 2001, the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation was given €344,000 for a project titled Political and Victim's Programme with the purpose to enable the organisation to support a programme to build relationships and dialogue between and among victims and survivors of the Northern Ireland conflict and to increase understanding between political parties.
