Oral history interview of Nick Henderson

Context

Nick Henderson was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Irish Refugee Council in 2016. During his time in Ireland Nick has held several leading positions in organisations such as Integrity at Work, an initiative of Transparency International Ireland promoting supportive working environments for whistle-blowers, Amnesty International Ireland, IRC Independent Law Centre, and the Migrant Rights Centre of Ireland. Prior to coming to Ireland, he was a legal representative for people seeking asylum with the Refugee Legal Centre in London and the Jesuit Refugee Service in Cambodia.

This fifty-seven-minute long oral history interview was conducted by the Digital Repository of Ireland as part of The Atlantic Philanthropies archive project (2017-2020) titled Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland in 2019., In this interview Nick Henderson gives insight into the work of the Irish Refugee Council's Independent Law Centre and the contemporary issues facing refugees in Ireland including housing, legal support, direct provision, and rights to work., and This recording contains the personal views of the participants, they do not reflect the views of the DRI.
