The sixty-eight-minute long oral history interview was conducted by the Digital Repository of Ireland as part of The Atlantic Philanthropies archive project (2017-2020) titled Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland in 2020., In this interview, Tina Leonard talks about The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland and her work on the public awareness campaign to reduce the stigma of dementia in society, which was funded by a grant from the Atlantic Philanthropies. Tina explains how people with dementia took part in the campaign across all media and the impact this had in changing perceptions of dementia in Ireland. Tina continues to outline some of the key advocacy work the Alzheimer’s Society undertook in the years from 2008 until 2016, for example, the National Dementia Strategy which identifies key principles to underpin and inform the full range of health and social care services provided to people with dementia, their families and carers. Tina also details the work of the National Steering Group, Dementia Research Advisory Team, and Irish Dementia Working Group who developed a Charter for Rights for people with dementia in 2016., and This recording contains the personal views of the participants, they do not reflect the views of the DRI.
