The seventy-four-minute long oral history interview was conducted by the Digital Repository of Ireland as part of The Atlantic Philanthropies archive project (2017-2020) titled Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland in 2019., In this interview, Laurence McKeown gives insight into his life in prison and his discovery of creative writing. He details the creation of H3 a movie about how inmates at Northern Ireland's Maze prison organize a protest when authorities no longer recognize their political status, and his own experience of being imprisoned. Laurence talks about completing a Ph.D. in Sociology from Queen's University Belfast and gives insight into his employment as co-ordinator of Coiste na nIarchimí [Ex-Prisoner's Committee] an organisation founded in 1998 to facilitate the reintegration of Irish Republican released prisoners Coiste na nIarchimí was supported by Community Foundation Northern Ireland that was supported by The Atlantic Philanthropies. He discusses how Ex-Prisoners Interpretative Centre [EPIC] and Coiste na hIarcimí worked together to end discrimination of former political prisoners and highlights the role of the arts in a post-conflict society., and This recording contains the personal views of the participants, they do not reflect the views of the DRI.
