Context

Tom Roberts the director of the Ex-Prisoners Interpretative Centre [EPIC] since 1996. The centre works to facilitate the reintegration of loyalist, political motivated prisoners upon their release. EPIC has worked with Coiste na nIarchimí, which translates from Irish to English as ex-prisoner’s committee.

This sixty-four-minute long oral history interview was conducted by the Digital Repository of Ireland as part of The Atlantic Philanthropies archive project (2017-2020) titled Amplifying change: A history of the Atlantic Philanthropies on the island of Ireland in 2019., Tom Roberts talks about his own experience of discrimination, what has been done to end discrimination of former prisoners who are seeking employment and what remains to be done to improve conditions. He talks about the role of Community Foundation Northern Ireland, an organisation that has been funded by The Atlantic Philanthropies., and This recording contains the personal views of the participants, they do not reflect the views of the DRI.
